The evolution of the LED luminaire

The luminaire changes skin!

Evolution or revolution, lighting is changing unprecedented, driven by the development of new technologies.

The lighting as we know it is living its last years. Our way of understanding light will evolve, in a context of energy savings leading to a gradual disappearance of incandescent bulbs. New solutions are emerging, such as the low energy lamp, the LED and the OLED (organic light emitting diode). Promising technologies for energy impact, but whose benefits are still difficult to grasp.

Rethinking the luminaire

This upheaval brings about a change in the way the luminaire thinks. Some manufacturers and designers no longer dissociate light source and support, but reason overall, even consider disposable lamps that last 15 to 20 years.

Another innovation still little is known, the OLED, which offers powerful and non-aggressive ambient lighting, allows designing lamps without lampshades, highlighting the technology itself.

Towards a new living environment

There is also the question of the integration of lighting in the home. Thus the light sources can be inserted in the ceiling, in the walls, the floor and remain invisible when they are extinguished. The complementarity of the various illuminating sources makes it possible to play with the possibilities offered by these: general lighting with the low energy lamp or the OLED, extra for the LED.

The actors of the lighting speak moreover today of scenarios of lighting, which value the space and agree with the different moments of life. Motion detection and tactile control also offer new possibilities for experiencing light.

Make the right choice!

So as not to be disappointed by the new sources of lighting, choose either watt, but the luminous efficiency (expressed in lumens per watt), the amount of light scattered. For information:  a 40 watt light bulb is equivalent to 410 - 430 lumens. A 60-watt light bulb is equivalent to 700 - 750 lumens: a 100-watt light bulb is equivalent to 1300 - 1400 lumens.
